It's tough when aging parents can no longer take proper care of themselves or the home they've cherished for a lifetime. They turn to their middle-aged children for help, but the "children" often don't know where to start!

Eventually you decide, something better has to be possible ... Now how does Ryan Moving and Storage  fit in?

Link to Senior Alternatives website At first our help is modest. Little more than assuring you that in modern facilities many elderly people begin to flourish again. They eat better. Their health is closely monitored. They worry less about day-to-day matters. They socialize again.

To help you educate yourself about this, first To help you educate yourself about this, first bookmark this site so you can find us again. Then check out the list of facilities that are currently participating with us. If you don't find one convenient for you, use these links to learn about "Assisted Living," and find a facility that meets your parents' specific needs. Next, return here and follow the ReloUSA link to search for a qualified realtor to handle the sale of the old homestead -- or, if you're adventurous, click over to OWNERS.COM, called by the Wall Street Journal the best "for sale by-owner network."

Once those two tasks are out of the way, return again and put the rest in our capable hands. Let our package of custom-tailored services that we call
It will help you navigate through the remaining obstacles and prevent the actual move from becoming the nightmare it all too often is ...

The NIGHTMARE is caused by two factors: decades of living in a house create a huge number of possessions; and the time between sale of the house and the closing is usually uncomfortably short ...

So, what's the solution?

First, our trained and sensitive staff removes everything to safe storage and leaves the house "broom clean."

Doing this in one fell-swoop is a great help to you. First, it removes the tremendous anxiety about "never making it by closing day" that the parents feel acutely. By this point, they are usually passive -- but by no means disinterested -- spectators. They make their fears known rather insistently to the "children," who know inwardly that they have neither the time, the stamina, nor the resources to do the work properly themselves. More anxiety and pressure.

So we step in, inventory everything before removing it, and store the house's contents in a sealed individual vault.

All of our professional services and expertise applied to your situation. Packing. Moving. Storage. Disposal. You don't need any of these headaches yourself ...

Inside Ryan's secure storage facilities, the "children" can go through everything at their leisure

The time pressure, of course, is gone. But so too is much of the emotional burden of sorting through things in the house. Seeing long-cherished items in their "natural habitat" is tough. Seeing them in storage allows you to savor the memories, but somehow seems to lessen the heartbreak.
So, without pressure, you decide what you want us to do with everything:
  1. The items that your parents want to take into assisted living. Generally not a lot will fit in these efficiency apartments, but we'll deliver whatever items they want, with all the swiftness and safety for which Ryan is famous.
  2. The items you children or other relatives want to keep. Childhood mementos that they never got around to removing. Special pieces of furniture that have memories. If you're tempted to undertake Step 1 by yourself, think twice about how you'll handle who gets what. How you'll pack and ship it. Where and how you'll store the things everyone wants. We'll parcel out everything you can agree on, shipping items to as many locations as you designate, and store the rest for as long as you need ... all safe and neutral in our warehouses.
  3. The items you think you can auction or otherwise dispose of for profit ... at a swap meet or garage sale. These we'll deliver wherever you direct. We can often advise you which "treasures" might be junk and which "junk" might be treasures. What might sell and what probably won't. (Since you've proved yourself a diligent Websurfer, here are a couple of Internet sites offering "e-sales": www.onsale.com and www.classifieds2000.com. Check them out while you're thinking about this task. And tell us about any other sites like these that we can recommend to others!
  4. The items that are still in good enough condition to be donated to charitable organizations. These we'll set aside and call for pick-up in your name. We'll get a receipt for you to claim on your income taxes. Our the inventory list can serve as the basis for determining their "reasonable market value."
  5. Everything else -- things that are too far gone for anyone to want or use -- we'll haul to a landfill for you. Making these arrangement and getting everything out is often the last and greatest nightmare of all!
